Chapter Twelve
With no one else to call, I had no choice but to call DC. He didn’t answer at first but thankfully, he called me right back. Like a knight in shining armor, he had Willow’s car towed to his friend’s garage then he gave me a ride to pick up Willow from the salon. During the ride, I explained the situation while he listened quietly. “I have no idea who it was but let me find out it was Natalie and I will Molly whoop that hoe when I see her.”
“Why do you think it was her when you’re not messing with her man?” DC finally spoke up.
“The only man I’m sort of messing with is you. Maybe it was one of your hoes.” I turned to look at him sideways.
“I don’t have no hoes, Imani.” DC laughed.
“Maybe it was meant for Willow. After all, it is her car.” I sat back in the seat.
“If you don’t mind my asking, what were you doing out this way?”
“Brio called and said he wanted to give me something.” I didn’t see any point in lying, especially when I was about to move into the man’s house. “When I got there, he gave me a key to his old place and told me that Brie and I could move in.”
“Imani, I could’ve helped you find a place.” DC turned on his blinker and merged over without looking at me.
“DC, I don’t know you well enough to expect you to be helping me out like that but thank you though.” I didn’t miss the sour look on his face, so I tried to smooth things over. “Look, Brio is my daughter’s father. There will be times when he does things for me on the strength of her. As a man, you’ve got to respect that.”
“Is this your girl’s spot right here?” He asked, completely ignoring me.
“Yeah.” I replied as he put the car in park. Grabbing my bag, I reached for the door handle but he stopped me.
“Imani, I’m sorry.” He placed a hand on my thigh. “I’m not trying to be rude but this is an adjustment. I’ve never had to share someone I was interested in with a friend of mine.”
“You said you wanted to try this, DC. If you’ve changed your mind, I understand. No harm no foul.” I truly meant that.
“Let’s forget this just happened, okay. I appreciate your honesty but I don’t want to hear about B anymore tonight.” DC looked at me. “Go get your friend so we can get our night started.” He leaned in and kissed my neck.
DC dropped us off at Willow’s apartment so he could go home and get dressed himself. While I was getting ready, I apologized profusely to Willow for the damage done to her whip. Although she said it could’ve been someone out to get her, I still felt guilty for having her ride in my possession at the time it was damaged. Therefore, I promised to pay for the repairs.
